Be Ready – the story behind producing the Lionesses World Cup promo

May 2019

One of the things I love about my job is that projects come in all shapes and sizes, and sometimes quite unexpectedly.

Three weeks ago whilst on a remote shoot a few miles from Lands End, I received a call asking if Storyman would be interested in producing a promo for the England Women’s World Cup team.

“Of course, we’d love to.” I replied, without hesitation.

“It needs to be delivered by 3 May” replied the client.

“Oh”.

By the time we returned from our shoot in Cornwall, we would have just seven days to research a vast amount of footage, write the script, find VO artists, film promo content, etc. etc. Put it this way, we now had a long to-do list and only a very short period of time in which to complete it.

We couldn’t wait to get stuck in.

We were so excited to work with the England Women’s World Cup team. I’ve always been a champion of women in sport and with twin sisters recently graduating from uni and my daughter turning one last week, it feels even more significant to me personally that strong role models like the Lionesses are given the limelight they deserve.

What occurred next was a great collaboration between us and the client, with channels of communication wide open and inclusive decision making across both sides. Our skilled team worked closely with the engaged client to ensure they were across every step of the creative process, offered suggestions and facilitated changes as and when they were needed (and not all right at the end!). With everyone working as one team, the project was constantly moving forward without the need for any major re-thinks.

We’re delighted with the end result which couldn’t have been achieved without a great collaboration with the client. Acknowledging that this was a tight turnaround, they helped significantly in ensuring the smoothest workflow possible.

It’s been a busy year at Storyman and this is another project we’re really proud of.
